What the Prostate Gland is for

Most men do not know where the prostate is or what it's for, so here's a snip of information.

Named by the Greeks as,‘that which stands before’, the prostate lies just below the bladder and surrounds the top part of the urethra - the tube that drains urine from the bladder.

The size of a pea at birth the prostate gland grows to the size of a walnut in the male adult, that’s about one inch by three quarters of an inch by one and a half inches (2.5 cm by 1.9 cm by 3.75 cm).

Function of the Prostate

The secretions from the prostate keeps the lining of the urethra moist. The prostate also produces most of the seminal fluid that transports and nourishes the sperm.

Prostate enlargement occurs in 43 per cent of men over the age of 60.
